ROD HANDLING GUIDELINES

Handling & Cautions

  • Tighten joint pieces regularly — but not too tight. Twist and tighten the joint pieces from time to time while fishing, but avoid overtightening to the point where you can't take them apart. If they get loose, the rod may break while casting or fighting a fish. Double-check often, especially during heavy casting sessions.
  • Avoid impacts. Do not drop or hit the rod or blank against any hard surface. Carbon fiber is susceptible to cracking from collision, which can cause the rod to break while fishing.
  • Do not lift fish with the rod alone. Never swing or bring a fish to the boat using only the rod. This puts excessive strain on the blank.
  • Keep hands off the tip when a fish is on. Avoid touching the tip section while fighting a fish. The tension can break the rod.
  • Do not high-stick beyond 45 degrees. Never lift the rod beyond 45 degrees while reeling in, boating, or unhooking a fish. High-sticking is one of the most common causes of rod breakage. Hold the rod at the correct angle at all times. When unhooking, ensure the line is slack so the rod is not under load.
